Masking is a powerful and flexible way to get images, graphics, text to all clip within a specific area. So that you only see what appears within the shape, and anything outside of the shape does not appear. It is hidden or clipped. So for example, in our sample file here, I've got some layers that overflow beyond this gray box that we have.

To get started, you have to create an artboard first. Crop Artboard for Sketch App + Skala. I've been using Sketch App for a few months now, I really love it. But since I'm working mostly on mobile the lack of compatibility with Skala Preview annoyed me. If you don't know about Sketch App, read about it here in french or check the official website.

Masking artboard sketch

Draw one after you have pressed O, and hold Shift to lock the ratio. The circle should start in the top-left corner. If you want the artboard to show the layers list every time, you can manually click on the caret on the left side of artboard/layer name. Another new visual cue on Sketch UI is the masking indicator. So if I delete the artboard, those elements will be deleted as well. And when I move the artboard, my elements move with it, so that's very, very good.
